Published:  21 October, 2009

Mental health charity Rethink has launched a free guide to help all school staff in England support the mental health and wellbeing of pupils.

The ‘Uthink Resource for Schools' includes information on mental health and practical advice on how schools and teachers can help children and young people aged 5 to 18 maintain good mental health and wellbeing.

The guide looks at definitions of mental health problems and disorders and gives ideas for helping pupils who may be having difficulties. The new pack also contains a series of factsheets for staff to give to pupils, covering how to deal with stress and anxiety, the effects of drugs, alcohol and food on mental health, how to cope with exams and interviews and where to go for further help.

The new guide has been produced by Uthink, the charity's three-year pilot project to support young people with mental health problems The new guide can be downloaded for free.
