Durability and flexibility is formula for school success
Published:  21 October, 2009

Neaco's design flexibility and the hard-wearing and aesthetic qualities of their products were all put to good use for an extensive specification at Whitburn Church of England School in South Tyneside.

The recently completed new build development includes two external coast-facing terraces which feature Neaco's Techdek aluminium decking with a bespoke balustrade design adapted from their Spectrum range. The stainless steel and nylon coated aluminium versions of Spectrum are also featured on interior stairwells and an atrium.

"Techdek was chosen partly due to its aesthetics and design but also because of its durability in coastal sites," said Dominic Marshall, partner at Silvester Ashton Partnership. "The building design appears simple yet contemporary and the use of the Techdek complements this approach. The external balustrade to the balconies was designed specifically for this project and we worked closely with Neaco at an early stage in the design of the whole building to ensure the aesthetics of this component worked with the building design."

"The balustrades and decking are prominent parts of the design and obviously receive heavy usage in such an educational building and we are happy that they are performing well.
