Nationwide Education building life skills
Published:  17 September, 2009

Government educational policy is increasingly recognising the importance of children and young people developing core life skills (e.g. achieving economical wellbeing, staying safe) as well as learning traditional subjects. With this in mind, in 2007, Nationwide Building Society created Nationwide Education, an engaging interactive website linked to the UK national curricula.

Designed to make a difference now and in the future, the website encompasses three programmes - Safety, Financial Capability and Sustainable Living - and covers topics like savings, budgeting, tax, recycling, energy and road safety. Tailored sections for pupils/students of different age groups ensure progression in learning from ages 4 to 16 plus. The acclaimed programmes, for use on interactive whiteboards and PCs, provide stimulating games and story books, quizzes, film clips, fact sheets and work sheets to stimulate and engage children; getting serious messages across in a fun and inspiring way.

Nationwide Education supports teachers and parents, giving them the tools and confidence to communicate these vital life skills and provides a real life context. The website has received over 2.5 million hits in the last 10 months and all the resources can be accessed for free.
