Wired for storage
Published:  17 September, 2009

With increasing numbers of pupils using laptops as part of their core curriculum, safe storage and charging is becoming a real headache for network managers and ICT teachers.

"I realised what a major problem it can be when I spoke to educationalists who spend a great deal of time and effort in ensuring that students, who are increasingly mobile, have a safe solution for storage and re-charging" comments Chris Mott, Global Business Development Manager of the KE Group.

A Kent based manufacturer, The K E Group was formed in 1965 with two divisions - Kentinental Engineering, which over the years has specialised in working with major manufacturers, supplying specialised base stands for photocopiers and printers, and Enclosure Systems, who

manufacture 19" enclosures for IT equipment within the Security, Audio Visual, Data Networking and Educational sectors.

Chris doesn't stand still for long, and in his quest for a workable solution for laptop security, KE Group has now teamed up with Leba Innovation, a Danish company offering a unique solution within the educational and business sectors. The company is now manufacturing Leba secure storage and re-charging products which are available direct from them or through a selection of re-sellers, with more to be appointed in the coming months.

The Leba range includes the versatile NoteLocker which offers secure storage and re-charging of electronic equipment. This flexible locker can store laptops, mobile phones, iPods and other electrical equipment in any of the compartments - and re-charge at the same time. Simple and easy to install, without the need for a qualified electrician, this modular system locks together and is available in 3 or 4 compartment modules. This allows compartments of 3,4,6,8,10 or 12 to be created, ensuring flexibility to meet the needs of the school. The NoteLocker comes complete with its own Power Distribution unit for any 13amp plug.

Each unit measures just 40 x 45cms and is available as floor standing or wall mounted. NoteLocker can be placed anywhere in the school or college - wherever pupils need to store electronic equipment. This secure system has various locking options including padlock, key or combination lock with special locking systems available upon request. Orders can usually be despatched within one working day.

"Where a static system is not the answer the NoteCart will do the job" says Chris. "Based on many years of experience we have re-designed NoteCart in collaboration with a number of schools. Able to store 12, 16, 24 or 32 laptops, the new system brings better cable management with a fully enclosed system.

Each individual shelf which houses laptops is accessible from the front, and the NoteCart can house any make of laptop. We also offer a Service Blade enabling a Wireless Hub and Data Switch to be housed within the Cart. This allows teachers and network managers to upload software for each and every laptop in one go. "The new perspex door option has been a great success as teachers can check whether laptops have been put away correctly and are on charge without having to open the door."

"Leba Innovation products have recently been endorsed by Kent County Council, and we are also seeing an interest from other governing bodies"

I left the company feeling that this innovative and adaptable business really does listen to the marketplace and can offer a workable solution - whatever the budget.
