Decothane top up for university roof
Published:  17 September, 2009

Liquid Plastics, pioneer of liquid applied roofing technology, has returned to the University of Central Lancashire to extend the life of a roof system originally installed 15 years ago.

The 2,000m2 roof of the university's Victoria Building was originally coated with Liquid Plastics' Decothane Omega 15 system in 1993, and over 15 years later the waterproofing has survived its full term without any problems or any requirement to re-visit the roof. Although the coating was not showing any signs of failure, the client wished to overcoat the system to extend the guarantee period.

This large roof area also incorporates glazing panels that had to be negotiated in order to access the roof, whilst the building remained in use -so a heat applied system was not used.

Liquid Plastics' Decothane Beta 10 top-up system was specified for the project. A reactivation primer was first applied, followed by the application of a Decothane Top Coat, with some of the glazing panels also being treated with Decothane Clearglaze.

The top-up system could be applied directly to the existing Decothane without any need to strip the old material, and cures to provide a completely seamless waterproof membrane, extending the guarantee period of the roof for an additional 10 years.
