Schools out for St. Clements Squeeze
Published:  16 September, 2009

Barr Soft Drinks has developed a new range of products under the St Clements Squeeze brand to meet the needs of both the Schools Food Trust's soft drinks guidelines for school's and school pupils desire for great tasting refreshment during the school day.

The Schools Food Trust want drinks provided in schools to be additive free, contain no flavourings, colourings, sweeteners, fruit extracts or preservatives (other than those permitted under existing EU regulation).

St Clements Squeeze will be launched in August at the start of the new school term in a 330ml can the largest selling and preferred pack format for teenagers.

A key benefit for school's is that can's are 100% recyclable. With around 50% of all cans currently being recycled it is the most recycled soft drinks pack format.

The 330ml can will therefore be a great fit for schools own environmental education and recycling initiatives.

Squeeze will contain 50% Juice and 50% carbonated water.

Adrian Troy Barrs Head of Marketing said: ‘We are really excited about the growth potential for St Clements Squeeze. Squeeze will count as 1 of the recommended 5 a day, has no added sugar, artificial sweeteners, colours, flavourings or preservatives. So far we have had a fantastic response when presenting the product to LEA's and Local Council's'.

Three variants have been developed Apple, Orange and Citrus and with an RRSP of 59p the range will deliver excellent value for money to school pupils.

It is anticipated that Squeeze could also be made available in C&C and Wholesalers in Scotland from the start of the new term as well as through Barr's Retail Division so that local shops can stock the product range.

The new brand also joins the rest of Barr's schools range which includes water and juice drinks products all of which are ideal for school lunch boxes. St Clements Pure Juice is available in two variants Orange and Apple in 330ml wide mouth PET. Rubicon 100% juice is packaged in 288ml tetra in two flavours Mango & Apple and Guava & Berry. St Clements fruit smoothies contain only pure pressed fruit, not from concentrate in 250ml screw cap tetra. Simply Pure 100% juice in 275ml TETRA packs in Orange and Apple variants counts as 1 of the recommended 5 a day and contains no added sugar, artificial sweeteners, colours, flavourings or preservatives. Strathmore Water is a trusted ‘contemporary' Scottish brand supported by heavyweight TV advertising and is available in a range of impulse pack sizes.

Strathmore Spring is one of the UK's leading bottled water brands created by nature in a 50 year filtration process through the sandstone layers of the Vale of Strathmore where it is drawn from an aquifer deep underground. Strathmore Spring water is an excellent and healthy way for anyone looking to remain hydrated at any time, anywhere during the day. PET bottles are 100% recyclable, and plastic recycling rates have been growing 40% year on year. Barrs have also reduced the amount of plastic in Strathmore 500ml bottles by 5% and will continue to work towards further reductions
