EATZ4U goes from strength to strength
Published:  16 September, 2009

Unilever Foodsolutions , maker of KNORR foods, launched a new initiative earlier this year, to help primary and secondary schools increase school meal uptake by providing expert marketing, culinary and nutritional support tailored to each local authority's needs and requirements.

Eatz4U works by inspiring the children through front of house theatre that competes against similar high street offerings, whilst also getting them excited about food. The dedicated team at Unilever Foodsolutions offers continual support throughout the programme, with advice on marketing execution and access to nutritional and culinary specialists.

To assist with meeting nutritional standards , the Unilever Foodsolutions Culinary Team has developed simple, easy to follow recipes in line with the standards  and helps to train school catering teams within each local authority to ensure consistency across all schools. The Culinary Team visit every local authority that signs up to the programme, teaching the head catering staff how to cook the Eatz4U recipes, as well as giving advice on portion control and wastage and offering suggestions for getting the most out of each meal.

Schools in authorities such as Salford, Solihull, Merthyr Tydfil and Rhondda Cynon Taff will all be implementing Eatz4U in their schools this term and feedback on trial stages of the programme has been extremely positive from both staff and students.

Sally Bowen, Assistant Principal at Smith's Wood Sports College in Solihull, finds the support from Unilever Foodsolutions one of the most beneficial parts of the programme, saying: "Working in partnership with Unilever Foodsolutions has been really good for Smith's Wood, as we know that we have constant access to nutritional and culinary experts who can provide advice and tips on nutrition, as well as the tasty recipes they have provided for school meals."
