Silence please - exam time at Highgate Wood School
Published:  16 September, 2009

It's that time of the year again when schools across the country have had to hold exams. Highgate Wood School in London is no exception, however, noisy construction work being undertaken to upgrade school buildings adjacent to the exam hall, left nowhere suitable for students to sit their exams.

With only 6 weeks to go until the first exam, the school needed a quick and versatile solution and contacted Spaciotempo, the UK's largest temporary building provider.

Spaciotempo completed a fully operational temporary exam hall in less than 6 weeks from the initial enquiry in March. Fixed to the hard surface of the school's rear playground, some distance away from building works, a 15m x 65m hall was constructed, fitted out and ready for the first exam to take place on the 5th May.

The high-specification building included glazed front doors, high quality flooring and eye level windows to create a light and airy environment conducive to sitting examinations. Split by an internal partition to provide two exam halls, flush-fitted, 40mm reinforced cavity walls were provided to retain heat for an ambient and comfortable temperature. Of maximum importance, was the low noise pump in the insulated roof - specified to cause minimal distraction to the students.
