The facility was handled as a turnkey project with the school's individual requirements incorporated at the design stage. The insulated timber structure provides a modern facility with 72 m2 of partitioned floor space to accommodate; a play area, kitchen, storage room, child and adult sized toilets.
Structural support is provided by glulam beams which allow great design flexibility. The building is clad with durable larch and with uPVC windows and doors, it requires minimum maintenance. A ballustraded verandah and ramp provide access to outdoor play areas. A glazed gable, large windows and doors bring a bright airiness to the interior, the internal timber finish helping to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere ideal for encouraging the children to learn through play.
Constructed at Pinelog's Bakewell factory, the building was delivered on caravan transporters, in two pieces. These were placed on simple foundations and bolted together to provide a complete building.
Head Teacher Joseph Kinane is delighted with the new facility: "Four weeks after delivery, ‘Little Urchins' was open to our first group of children. It has been well received by all and serves its purpose very well" he concluded.
