CP keep control
Published:  08 July, 2009

Microwave detectors from CP Electronics have been used to control the lighting in the refurbishment of one of the campus buildings at Exeter University. The project involved the use of CP's MWS1 and MWS3 microwave detectors to provide dimming, daylight dimming, energy savings, absence and presence detection in open plan offices, corridors and cellular offices to improve energy efficiency. The building that has undergone the refurbishment is a nine storey structure and the top three floors have been completely refurbished whilst minor works have been carried out on levels two, five and six.

CP presence detectors have been installed in all office spaces to ensure that lighting is not used unnecessarily. With each presence detector controlling a pre-defined lighting zone, the users are able to achieve control over their workspaces while ensuring that occupied areas are adequately lit. The system also provides daylight linking on the desks closest to windows so that illumination can be dimmed in those areas when sufficient natural daylight is available thus saving energy.
