Help to build a guide to the world's largest teaching resource!
Published:  08 July, 2009

A fascinating project is underway at CABE (Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment) - a guide is being created for teaching using buildings and places. The project, called (appropriately enough) Engaging Places, was developed after extensive consultation with teachers. They told the Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) that there was a need for something to help them get the most from this incredibly rich, huge, and free, resource.

The idea is simple. Create a free website that's a one stop shop to showcase locations, events and resources.  Information is drawn from the datasets held by Culture 24 (formerly the 24 hour museum). Other content is being specially written and schools themselves are also contributing features. There are plenty of ideas for teaching individual subjects, such as maths, English and science as well as teaching across the curriculum, and of course teaching about the built environment - whether historic or contemporary. So log on to see what ideas you can use. You might also feel inspired to help the website grow!

Engaging Places is being developed in partnership with English Heritage, and is supported by DCMS and the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).
