Elm Court - the first school refurbishment of an Edwardian/Victorian property carried out as part of the BSF programme - completes a trio of groundbreaking firsts delivered by Apollo for Lambeth. Apollo's first project for the Borough, the award-winning Michael Tippett, was the first BSF school in London and the first in the UK for children with Special Educational Needs. Hot on heels followed Park Campus, the first alternative education provision school in a generation.
Investment work carried out by Apollo has breathed new life into Elm Court. The integration of striking modern design features such a covered atrium using high-tech materials, and a glass-enclosed external stairway blending the old with the new, has turned the property from a dilapidated eyesore into a community asset for future generations of local children.
Apollo's expertise in the construction of transformational learning environments and in the adaptation, refurbishment and renewal of existing facilities has resulted in a series of further BSF commissions - most recently for the London Borough of Haringey which has appointed the firm to build four new secondary schools for £41.2m. This latest contract win is set to ensure Apollo remains at the forefront of the BSF programme as it gains momentum in providing new or refurbished premises for every secondary school in the country.
