Travelling to Teach 2009
Published:  17 February, 2009

This summer, GapGuru, the India gap year specialist, is looking for 30 more inspirational teachers to work with underprivileged children in India for three weeks over the summer break as part of ‘Travelling to Teach' Summer Holiday Programmes for Teachers‚ an exciting initiative aimed at teachers across the UK.

Arvind Malhotra, Managing Director of GapGuru explains: "Last year, we sent 12 teachers from across the UK to teach underprivileged children in India and the results were astonishing. This year, we want to find teachers with the same dedication and talent to use their skills in some of the poorest parts of India and Nepal.  Our aim is to find talented teachers who are prepared to use their summer break to benefit the lives of children who need it most, building on the foundations we laid last year."

The Travelling to Teach trip lasts three weeks, from 3 August to 21 August and gives teachers the opportunity to explore a wonderful part of the world and make a difference in some of the most deprived areas.

Arvind continues: "The charity schools we work with provide education to children from some of the poorest backgrounds, they need our help and support. We are looking for qualified teachers, English language teachers and those with an aptitude for drama, arts and crafts, music or sport to work with the teachers at these schools, run a programme for the children and use their talent to make a difference. The children are keen to learn new skills and, in many cases, our volunteers will learn from them too.  This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and one that could change lives."

The Travelling to Teach 2008 places will be offered on a first come basis with regular interviews to select applicants. The deadline for applications is 31 May 2009. For further information or to apply:
