Concentration in the classroom
Published:  17 February, 2009

The human body is 70 per cent water and the average British body loses around 21⁄2 litres of water per day. Whilst some of this loss is replaced by eating foods containing liquid, we all still need to drink up to 2 litres of liquid a day as all this water loss can affect brain function and when it comes to children, dehydration can affect levels of concentration in the classroom.

Children are becoming more health-aware than ever and understand the importance of hydration within a healthy diet. By offering Abbey Well® Natural Mineral Water in vending machines, schools can cover all consumption occasions by offering a simple purchase solution to hydration throughout the day and at the same time alleviate pressures on the catering operation during lunchtimes.

At the recent LACA conference Abbey Well® teamed up with The Vending Corporation to offer a school compliant Abbey Well® BevMax vending machine package, including 23 cases of free product, worth £430. With the machine delivered, installed and maintained for five years from £29 per week, just 17 vends per day will cover the cost of the machine and 100 vends per day will generate £150 profit per week for the school.

The entire Abbey Well® range of products conforms to government guidelines but the new star of the show is Abbey Well JuiceTM, specifically developed for schools. Available in an innovative new pouch format, making it truly portable and ‘ready to drink', it contains a straw which is only revealed upon opening - so no more spillages when trying to pierce the packaging and no more missing straws which have become lost in transit!

All variants are made with juice from concentrate and are free from additives. The Apple and Orange pouches are 100 per cent juice, while the Raspberry, Blackcurrant and Tropical versions are blended with water and to ensure each pouch contains one of your 5-a-day, they have a juice content of no less than 75 per cent.
