BSEC - Altro wins over children after refit of sports hall
Published:  09 January, 2009

Sports-mad youngsters are getting a kick out of a new school sports hall thanks to interior surface specialists Altro.

St Joseph's College in Ipswich, has fitted Altro Mondoflex, the company's premier sprung sports flooring in its new state-of-the-art indoor sports hall.

With hundreds of youngsters pounding the floors every week, the school were keen to lay a product that would withstand the constant pressure. The new flooring offers the practical side of being extremely durable, slip resistant and easy to clean. This is coupled with an attractive red and blue design, which has proven popular with young fitness fans at the school.

Facilities Manager at St Joseph's College, Gary Allen said the pupils' feedback had been really positive. "Our sports hall was very drab and uninspiring so we wanted to give it a complete overall with new flooring and decoration to create an area that the children would love using.

"Everyone at the school is really impressed with the end product, it really does look great and above all it is practical. Another positive is that all sorts of sports can be played on it and we can roll out heavy objects such as table tennis tables and the floors don't mark. The floor also looks like new every time it is cleaned which is fantastic."

Tom Revitt, from specialist sport surfaces installers, 4Runner Ltd, said; "Altro Mondoflex was installed as part of a complete refurbishment of the sports hall at St Joseph's College.  As is often the case, timescales and budgets were tight and we had to find a product that met all of the requirements for safety, durability and aesthetics, whilst minimising the amount of time the hall was out of use.  Altro Mondoflex offered a unique solution as the system's lack of depth meant that we were able to lay the new flooring over the existing floor, saving considerable time and money."

"The finished product looks great. The kids have been using it now for a few months and I have been back to see how it has fared under the pressure - it still looks great."
