Helping mums to find work that fits around their family life
Published:  10 November, 2008

A new service has been spreading across primary schools in London helping mums with kids to find work that fits around their family life. But why are schools supporting this new ‘school gates recruitment'?

Particularly in times of credit crunch, many families are looking for a much needed second income. Parents may approach Head Teachers directly to ask for advice or referrals to locally based organisations, not knowing where else to turn. But often the Head Teachers aren't in a position to offer parents job advice, even though they may recognise the broader need to offer parents extended services.

Women Like Us, the award-winning service who supports women with children back into work and helps employers source talented part time staff, has been working with over 120 schools across London to provide a network of school gates mums to offer advice and referrals to women looking to return to work.

Head Teachers and Women Like Us have found several advantages to providing job recruitment for parents as part of the extended schools service within the school community.

Schools are telling us that this programme has various benefits to them because:

It's FREE to mums and to schools as the service is offered through Women Like Us ‘Reps'.
