Screed for flooring
Published:  10 November, 2008

Mapei's TOPCEM fast drying screed, was recently used to provide the substrate on all floor areas in the new sixth form boarding house at Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh. TOPCEM is a normal setting, shrinkage-controlled binder for screeds, which, thanks to its rapid drying properties, hardens within 24 hours and is completely dry, whatever the thickness, within 4 days.

It is ideal where time is at a premium.  It can be used indoors and outdoors and on both new and existing concrete. Ceramic tiles can then be laid after only 24 hours, natural stone after 3 days and resilient flooring and wood after 4-7 days.

TOPCEM is also ideal for the provision of screeds incorporating underfloor heating, as was the case at Merchiston, where TOPCEM was screeded at a thickness of 75mm over the Velta Classic C17 pipe system.  Using TOPCEM allows the underfloor heating to be commissioned after only 4 days.
