To further encourage wood craft teaching, Fitchett & Woollacott is offering a 10% discount to schools on orders of £250 or more of timber products on production of the show voucher during the exhibition.
This year's Student Woodworking Competition has seen over 300 pieces of top quality work submitted across three age groups. A gallery of the handicraft can be viewed at www.fitchetts.co.uk
Winners will receive a Nintendo Wii and runners-up a personal media player or an i-Pod. Winning schools will receive materials and equipment for their D&T department, including £1000 worth of timber, a Hegner scroll saw, a Walton Designs multi-angle drawing board and Focus Educational Interactive Learning Software.
Teaching staff have commented that participation in the competition brings three broad outcomes; an impetus for individual students to complete projects, the usefulness of the competition website as a secondary teaching resource and the strengthening of links between the academic and commercial sectors.
