To enter, schools simply register on a dedicated micro-site, www.okitoolsforschools.co.uk, and upload photographs taken by pupils of local wildlife - anything from farmyard animals to insects, birds and even family pets.
The photographs will be categorised by age and the two top prize-winning entries will be picked at the BETT Show at London Olympia on 17 January 2009 by a representative from the Born Free Foundation.
The winning pupils and their teachers will spend three days on the reserve getting a real understanding of the work of Born Free and seeing conservation in action. The winners will also have the opportunity to donate an OKI printer to a local school near to the Shamwari reserve, as well as the overall winner from each age category receiving a printer for their own school. Every school that enters will have a winning pupil, who will receive a Born Free animal adoption kit. The photography competition is the first in a series of campaigns planned by OKI as part of its ‘Tools for Schools' initiative.
Ewa Johnson, marketing director, OKI Printing Solutions, explains: "OKI Tools for Schools features a range of products and services, designed to help secondary schools and their students get the most out of their printed work. Our aim is to develop new relationships with secondary schools with campaigns that directly benefit teachers and pupils while also positively impacting on the environment."
As part of the scheme, OKI is offering a 30-day free ‘try before you buy' trial on a range of its printing solutions, which can be applied for during the Born Free competition. Schools taking this option will receive an endangered species wall chart, animal adoption kit, screen saver and energy monitor.
