Steve Tonkiss of WHS Halo and Ralph Morton of System 10 fabricator Burley Windows have both successfully completed the BREEAM training programme to become fully qualified assessors for schools.
Developed by BRE (the Building Research Establishment), BREEAM Schools sets out environmental targets for new and refurbished school buildings. Set criteria including energy use, transport and health and wellbeing are used to assess buildings at the design stage to provide an environmental performance rating. The assessment is then verified post-construction.
Says Andrew Keir of WHS Halo: "BREEAM building assessments are required by various government organisations, including the Department for Children, Schools and Families which requires all new build and refurbishment schools to achieve a ‘very good' rating under BREEAM Schools.
"Such requirements place additional pressure on schools and LEAs which is why we have invested in assessor training so we can provide this additional service. PVC-U windows have recently been awarded an A rating in the new BRE Green Guide so by working with WHS Halo, schools can now receive a BREEAM assessment that is also enhanced by our low carbon windows at the same time."
