One area laptops are not helping to advance is the quality of handwriting amongst pupils. With much classroom based work being carried out on computers, it is easy to shy away from picking up a pencil. Not only does hand writing not improve but also spelling, grammar and numeracy can also be checked on a PC. However for pupils with special educational needs ICT has revolutionised and accelerated learning and communication skills exponentially
If handwriting is not at a reasonable standard by the time a child finishes primary school when entering secondary education they will almost certainly be at a distinct disadvantage to children who have developed speed and competency in their formative years. Through courses and literature provided by the likes of the National Handwriting Association, both parents and teachers can work together to make sure all pupils reach targets set by Government organisations. Within the next few pages are products designed to encourage and improve handwriting ability in a fun and engaging way.
