Gleeds complete ‘Flagship' Building
Published:  10 July, 2008

Gleeds, the International Management and Construction Consultancy, has just completed their work as Contract Administrators and Cost Consultants for the new £11.3 million Creative Arts building at the University of Huddersfield.

The 5,500sq m structure, built over four floors, will be home for students studying fashion, creative imaging, multimedia, business design and music technology.  It will house consolidated accommodation for the School of Music and the School of Art and Design, with rehearsal and instrument rooms, lecture theatres, recording studios and a performance space.

The project has also been designed to meet a ‘very good' BREEAM rating with the use of several renewable energy packages including micro wind power turbines mounted onto the stair towers and a photo-voltaic panel roof system. Other work includes acoustic treatments to the music block including the specialist music research cube.

The Foundation Stone for the new building was officially unveiled by Her Majesty the Queen and the plaque to celebrate this event has been incorporated into the facade of the construction.
